About the Maestro

Background & Lineage

Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan is a master classical vocalist of the Sham Chaurasi Gharana, one of the most enduring and expressive vocal lineages of the subcontinent. Raised within this tradition from childhood, he was trained in a rigorous, lineage-based system that emphasizes discipline, devotion, and deep listening.

His principal teacher was his father, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, a central figure of the gharana whose artistry helped shape its modern voice. Under his guidance, Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan developed a strong command of rāga, voice culture, and the subtle architecture of classical performance.

His music reflects the core values of the tradition: clarity of tone, emotional depth, and disciplined improvisation.

Grounded  firmly in lineage rather than fusion, his approach preserves the integrity of the classical form while allowing each performance to feel personal and deeply expressive.
